ABOUT ART & TECH:
Since 1989, the Art & Technology residency program, part of the Media Arts department at the Wexner Center for the Arts, has provided in-kind, post-production support for over 250 artists working in film and video. This volume of The Journal of Short Film represents some of the highlights from the past 10 years. Art & Tech has been a sanctuary for artists who are looking for support (sometimes technical, sometime creative, and often both) and an environment that encourages experimentation and welcomes the technical challenges that so often result.

These works represent only a handful of the many that have been supported during our tenure. It has been a pleasure to work with such an amazing group of artists and we look forward to the next 10 years!

Ari Sandel is nominated for an Oscar in 07!!!

I met Ari in Spring 06 while organizing a filmmakers panel discusion and screening with the University of Arizona and the Arizona International Film Festival. His nominated short film West Bank Story, if you haven't seen it, is a hilarious musical take on one of the most troubled regions in the world.

Helen Hill, Experimental filmmaker (Animator) mother, and good deed doer, was killed last week.

Although I never had the chance to meet her, I studied her book Recipes for Disaster last spring, when feeding a burgeoning love of handmade filmmaking while studying with Nicole Koschmann. Nicole knew Helen, and through reading the news articles and memorial impressions left by friends, I have the sense that the two women shared many of the same qualities. This incident is a confusing expression of the violence found in New Orleans.
